THE COASTS AND ISLANDS OF TUSCANY

The Tuscan Riviera enchants with its incredible diversity, miles of sandy beaches along the Versilia and Etruscan coasts, rocky coasts of the Maremma and the purity of its sea. Surrounded by the lush Mediterranean flora, it offers wonderful views of the many enchanting islands.

The Versilia Coast and the Etruscian Riviera in the north of Tuscany

The Versilia coast extends in the northwest of Tuscany in the province of Lucca. Its name comes from the river of the same name, which flows here into the Mediterranean Sea. Here you will find a lot of fun and entertainment for every taste and pure holiday on miles of sandy beaches. In the ice cream parlours, bars and restaurants on the beautiful promenades you can enjoy Mediterranean cuisine.

The Etruscan Riviera’s 90 km of coastline is home to well-preserved Etruscan finds that were settled and traded here as early as 800 BC. The coast in Baratti, Castiglioncello, Livorno and Quercianella is interrupted by unmistakable, reddish granite rocks. Many small bays with their beautiful, lonely sandy beaches invite you to sunbathe.

Snorkellers and divers get their money’s worth in the crystal-clear water. And also surfing and sailing can be done here at some sections. At San Vincenzo, Vada and the Gulf of Baratti you will find fine white sandy beaches, which alternate with slightly darker beaches in Cecia Bibbona and Castagneto.

The Silver Coast and the Tuscan Archipelago in the south of Tuscany

The Costa d’Argento, the Silver Coast, is located in the middle of the Maremma Nature Park, which already makes the journey a special experience! Surrounded by pine forests and Mediterranean vegetation, you will find pure nature and relaxation, as the kilometres of sandy beaches are not full even in summer.

The Argentario was once an island. Due to the deposits of the sea and rivers, it merged with the mainland through two areas, the Tombolo di Giannella and Feniglia. In its centre lies the enchanting lagoon of Orbetello. From the many harbours you can make boat trips and sailing trips to the islands of the Tuscan archipelago.

Off the coast of the province of Livorno are the seven paradisiacal islands, of which the island of Elba is the largest and best known. Set in the azure waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, the seven pearls and a few other small islands and form Europe’s largest marine reserve! They enchant with their unspoilt landscape and enchanting coastal sections and offer the right thing for every holiday wish. At lonely bays you can relax and sunbathe, dive, sail, fish or hike.
