The volcanic beaches on the Aeolian islands with its pitch-black sand, like on the island Volcano, are an excellent experience. You can also find black sandy beaches on the volcanic island Stromboli, like the Forgia Vecchie near the harbour of Porto Scari. Lipari is the largest and most vibrant island of this island group and dazzles with unique beaches as well. The most spectacular beach is the Capobianco, which can only be visited by boat. There, you can slide from large pumice stone slides into the turquoise blue ocean. They are relicts from a former quarry.

At the northern coast of Sicily, around Palermo, you should visit the beautiful beaches of Mondello and San Vito Lo Capo, which lie west from the capital. They are also popular with the locals from the cities Palermo and Trapani. The nearby nature reserve Lo Zingaro dazzles with remote and untouched bays to relax far away from the mass tourism.

Relax at the Scala dei Turchi and further dream beaches

Near Agrigent at the western coast lies one of the fascinating beaches of Italy, the Scala dei Turchi. It is characterized by a 50m high white limestone with a natural echelon form, where you can perfectly relax and enjoy the sun. Formerly, it was called the “Stairway of the Turks”, as it was the gateway of the Turks during the period of the Italian-Ottoman war.
