Sardinia's most beautiful beaches
Sardinia's most beautiful beaches are renowned for their crystal-clear waters, pristine white sand, and stunning natural scenery that make them a must-visit destination for beach lovers.
Discovering paradise: Sardinia's most breathtaking beaches
Sardinia is called the “Caribbean of Europe” because it is the best place in the Mediterranean to find attractive bathing opportunities. The approximately 1,850 kilometres of coastline are interspersed with white sandy beaches, quiet bays and the finest gravel, wild granite rock formations, bright turquoise water, shady pine forests and fragrant scrubland.
There are hardly any long rows of hotels or high-rise buildings in Sardinia, and since there is hardly any industry, the water is crystal clear and clean. With many beaches and bays, you can find peace and relaxation all year round – only the beaches in the popular northeast and around the capital Cagliari in the south are overcrowded in high summer.
The most beautiful stretches of coast in the north and west
On the north coast, Sardinia’s coastline is varied and diverse. Here, Costa Smeralda has established itself as a popular holiday resort with top-class holiday villas. Between Olbia and Palau, you will find many beautiful beaches and small bays, some of which can only be reached by boat. From Palau westwards towards Porto Torres, there are long sandy beaches of the finest kind, such as the surfing spot Porto Pollo, Vignola, Badesi Valledoria and Stintino.
The west coast impresses with untouched nature and quiet beach idylls, from the “rice grain beaches” of the Sinis peninsula in the north to the fantastic dune landscape of the Costa Verde down in the south. There are many other inviting stretches of beach around the beautiful coastal towns of Alghero, Bosa, Buggerru and Gonnesa. The west is not very well developed for tourism, making it a favourite destination for adventurous campers.
The sunny south and the multifaceted east coast
The south coast of Sardinia is a good place to be, especially in spring and from September onwards. Because of the nearby capital Cagliari, the beaches are relatively crowded in summer. The Costa del Sud in the extreme southwest of the island impresses with its wonderful dune beaches. The 8 km-long sandy beach of Poetto lies directly near Cagliari. Other beautiful beaches can also be found around Villasimius in the southeast.
Along the east coast of Sardinia, there are wonderful long sandy beaches such as the 3km long white beach of La Cinta near San Teodoro. Its neighbours at Budoni and Santa Lucia, behind which long pine groves extend, also invite you to linger. Around Santa Maria Navarrese, Arbatax and Barisardo you will find other wonderful beaches. The 10km beach on Costa Rei is one of the most beautiful on the island. The Gulf of Orosei in the central area of the east coast forms a beautiful contrast with its steep rocky slopes of the Supramonte massif and hidden sandy bays!
