In summer as well as in winter, Piedmont is a beautiful destination for vacations. Due to their proximity to Germany, Switzerland and Austria, the lakes “Lago Maggiore” and “Lago d’Orta” are popular destinations in summer. Here you can find the relaxing atmosphere of the water without travelling too far away from home. In winter, the slopes of Sestiere, Cesana Torinese, Via Lattea and Torre Pellice attract passionate skiers from all over.
The Heart and capital of Piedmont is Turin. Turin is well known as “Motor city” and has an important history with the Savoy Dynasty. Baroque buildings, monuments and the palaces Palazzo Carignano, Palazzo Madama and Palazzo Reale – former residences of the Savoys – are witnesses of their mighty times. Today the mentioned palaces are part of the UNESCO World Heritage.
You will never get bored in Turin! Besides numerous treasures of art and culture, Turin tempts with international trade fairs (e.g. book fair of Turin) or local events such as the chocolate fair “Cioccola Tò”.
On your trip to Piedmont you shouldn´t miss the culinary delights of this region! Piedmont is the most famous wine-growing region of Italy and home to the popular wines such as “Asti Spumante DOCG”, “Barolo” or “Barbaresco”. The white truffles of Alba harmonize perfectly to a glass of good Piedmont wine. We recommend you visit the truffle fair “Fiera Internazionale Tartufo Bianco d´Alba” which takes place every year in October or November in Alba.
