HIKING IN THE FASCINATING REGION PIEDMONT

The land at the foot of the Alpes is a hiking region par excellence, not only for experienced alpine climbers but also for recreational hikers. The Northern Italian region is perfect, to combine a hiking tour with culinary pleasures, like the Piedmontese delicacies and excellent wines, as the Barolo.

The most important mountains Monte Rosa and Monviso

The well-known four-thousand-metre mountain Monte Rosa and the little lower Monviso attract practiced hikers and climbers to discover the high alpine idyll. The western Alpes also offer several well-marked hiking trails for the recreational hikers. You can discover the source of the river Po by feet, Italy’s largest and most important river.

There some easy hiking tours in the Maritime Alpes in the southern part of the Piedmont, too, where you can enjoy total lonesomeness in a fantastic mountain scenery! There are two wonderful long-distance trails. One of them is the Grande Traversata delle Alpi, crossing the whole Piedmontese Alpes from the Swiss border to the Italian region Liguria, bordering in the south. It is more challenging than the other well-marked hiking trail crossing the beautiful valley Valle Maira in the south west of the Piedmont.

The winegrowing regions of the Langhe surrounding the famous wine village Barolo, dazzles with a large variety of hiking trails as well. The vineyards in this area are worth millions! Several pleasant hiking routes with a difference in altitude of 300m are perfect for recreational hikers.

In the hilly vineyards of the regions Roero and Monferrato, you can also find beautiful hiking trails and enjoy the hilly landscapes. Why not stop for a bite to eat or taste the excellent wines of the region at one of the wine farms!

The best season for hiking tours in the Alpes is between May and September, as many mountain huts, the so-called “Refugi,” are closed during the winter time. In the wine growing regions, you can hike all over the year, but the dull fog of the November is not very inviting.
