Everything you wanted to know about Venetia and Venice

The international travelers are especially delighted by the Adriatic coast, with its beautiful sandy beaches, sloping gently into the sea and innumerable lagoons. Of course, the main attraction of the region is Venice, the capital of the region. The lagoon city is spread over 118 small islands, resulting from alluvial soil, which are intersected by canals. The canals flow into the Canal Grande, which is 4 km long. More than 400 bridges cross the waterways of Venice. The most famous is the Rialto Bridge. Numerous churches, palaces, and squares decorate the old town and it is listed as UNESCO-World-Heritage-Site since 1987.
The famous Piazza di San Marco, the St. Mark’s Square, which is also known as the “living room of the Venetians”, is worth a stroll! Here you can find the famous Basilica di San Marco, the St. Mark’s Dome, from the 11th century, as well as the Palazzo Ducale from the 12th century. The fascinating church “San Giorgio Maggiore” from the 17th century can be seen from the square.
With the Vaporetti, water buses, or with motor boats, you can get from island to island. Or if you like it more romantic and want to enjoy the boat ride a little longer, you can take a ride with a “Gondoliere” in his gondola in small groups along the Canal Grande. Another highlight is the Venetian Carnival in February, which the Venetians celebrate exuberantly!
