GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION OF
EMILIA-ROMAGNA

The Emilia-Romagna lies in the northern part of Middle Italy and is a junction between Northern and Southern Italy. The diverse region is one of the most fertile and profitable, and therefore on of the wealthiest regions of Italy.

Discover Emilia-Romagna

Emilia-Romagna is located in Northern Italy, forming a key geographical link between Northern and Central Italy. The region stretches from the Po River in the north to the Apennine Mountains in the south, and from the Ligurian and Tuscan borders in the west to the Adriatic Sea in the east. With a total area of 22,123 km², it is one of the largest and most diverse regions in Italy.

To the north, Emilia-Romagna borders the regions of Lombardy and Veneto, while in the south, it meets Tuscany, Le Marche, and the independent microstate of San Marino. To the west lie Piedmont and Liguria. The eastern coastline opens up to the Adriatic Sea, contributing to the region’s mild Mediterranean climate — ideal for beach holidays and coastal activities.

This diverse landscape ranges from fertile plains in the Po Valley to rolling hills and mountainous terrain in the south, offering a rich mix of natural and cultural experiences. Its central position makes Emilia-Romagna a strategic transportation hub, easily accessible by high-speed trains, motorways, and international airports, especially through its capital city, Bologna.
