TERRA DI MOTORI – THE COUNTRY OF THE POWERFUL ENGINES

Who doesn’t know the racing car with the “Cavallino Rampante,” the rearing horse! The history of the unmistakable Ferrari reaches back to the 1940s, and since this time, the Italian sports car exudes emotions unlike any other – not only because of its red colour. It is the dream car of many passionate car fans since their childhood.

The history of the famous Ferrari

The father of the most popular Italian sports car has its home in the Emilia-Romagna. Enzo Ferrari was born in Modena in 1898 and already started in the youth to deepen his knowledge about combustion engines in his father’s forge. With his first self-built racing-car, he achieved significant successes in numerous car races in 1919. First, he drove for the racing stable of Alfa Romeo and from 1929 for his own, the Scuderia Ferrari.

In 1946, he started to produce racing cars in Maranello, like unforgettable dream cars as the 250GT, the 250 Testarossa or the Dino, who was named after the nickname of his firstborn son. In his birth house in Modena, the museum Museo Casa Enzo Ferrari opened in 2012 and is a must for every car fan! In Maranello, you can visit the Galleria Ferrari.

Maserati, Lamborghini & Co.

The company Maserati changed its head offices from Bologna to Maranello in the 1940s. It has its origin in the racing sport and started decades later to produce exclusive and luxurious road vehicles.

The sports car manufacturer Lamborghini is not less famous, and produces since the 1960s in Sant’Agata Bolognese. It formerly was a producer of tractors, and Enzo Ferrari encouraged Ferruccio Lamborghini to build the fast sports cars. The first car manufactured in serial production even exceeded the contemporary types of Ferrari by its engine power!

The Ducati Motor Holding has its head offices in the beautiful regional capital Bologna. The famous motorbike manufacturer produces since the 1950s its fast racing machines.

And, of course, there are numerous racing circuits in the Emilia-Romagna. The circuit Autodromo in Imola is a part of the history of Ferrari’s racing stable. Formula-1 races, like the Gran Premio from San Marico, already took place here. The Misano World Circuit lies between the ocean and hills in Misano Adriatico, and was enlarged recently. It offers space for 60,000 visitors, who can watch here popular, international motorbike races.
