  • Rimini

The region offers everything the vacationer’s heart desires! In the eastern part, colourful parasols line up next to each other along the Adriatic coast and the hinterland attracts its visitors with impressing monuments, castles and famous universities. Due to the mild Mediterranean climate, it is one of Italy’s most productive and wealthy regions.

It lies between the trail of the river Po in the north and the Apennines in the south and dazzles with its landscape diversity and breath-taking contrasts. Picturesque villages as Rimini, Riccione and Cattolica at the Adriatic coast offer relaxation and entertainment. Or discover the beauty of the Apennines by a stroll in one of the nature reserves or a horseback ride.

In the Po delta, the tallest and most important river of Italy flows into the Adriatic Sea. The nature reserve “Parco regionale del Delta del Po” stretches over several provinces and is surrounded by a fascinating river and lagoon landscape. The medieval and Renaissance old towns of the cities of Ferrara, Ravenna and Modena in the Po delta, are listed as UNESCO-World-Heritage-Sites.

The western part of the province Piacenza dazzles with many medieval castles in beautiful valleys. The wide plains, valleys and hills of Piacenza offer a perfect scenery for hiking tours and outdoor sports. In the province Parma, the best preserved castles and fortresses of Italy line up next each other from the Apennines to the Po delta, and invite its visitors to a magical world of knights and ancient customs!

The capital of Emilia-Romagna is Bologna. It is a major junction between North and South Italy due its central position in the eponymous province. Bologna is the seventh largest city in Italy and with its brick buildings is also known as “La Rossa”. It is also site of the oldest university in Europe!

The region is also named the “Terra di Motori” – the country of powerful engines. All the famous Italian sports car brands, such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati and famous motorcycle manufacturers, have their roots in the Emilia-Romagna. The Italian sports cars are not just fast – they exude emotions unlike any other sports car brand! Maranello in the province Modena is the hometown of the world-known Ferrari, and there you can, of course, visit the Ferrari museum. Besides the fast cars, Modena is the hometown of the famous “Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale”, the popular balsamic vinegar. It is on the A-list of the vinegar specialties! Since the 11th century it is used to refine sweet or savoury delights. The province Parma offers further delicacies, such as the delicious parmesan cheese, the “Parmigiano Reggiano”. Even in the Middle Ages it was food for the journey of pilgrims. The excellent Parma ham, “Prosciutto di Parma”, with its special flavour is protected by the EU logo since 1996. The Romans already used the climatic conditions of the region and produced the air-dried ham in Parma.
